THE QUEBEC THISTLE COUNCIL PRESENTS THE 8TH ANNUAL RON RICE MEMORIAL LECTURE, TO BE HELD WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 15, 2012

THE SCOTS CONTRIBUTION TO THE MILITARY IN EARLY MONTREAL
Guest speaker: Lt-Col. (Retd) Roman Jarymowycz, OMM, CD, Ph.D.
Dr. Jarymowycz will speak on the formation of new military regiments as the need developed in the 19th and early 20th century in Montreal.
Dr. Jarymowycz was born in Vienna, educated in Canada and has served in the Canadian Army and Militia. He holds degrees from McGill University and Université de Montréal. He joined the Loyola COTC in 1965. He has held various appointments and secondments in Canada and Europe; he commanded The Royal Canadian Hussars and was appointed to direct staff of MCSC. He retired in 2000, as Dean.
He is a renown military historian who has lectured at McGill, RMC and The Canadian Forces Staff College. He has contributed various articles and books dealing with the “Operational Art” including: Tank Tactics: From Normandy to Lorraine (Lynne Rienner, 2001); Cavalry from Hoof to Track (Praeger, 2008). He is also the author of The History of the Royal Montreal Regiment, 1945-1989 (1990).
ON the other side of the coin, Dr. Jarymowycz is a casual artist whose publications include military humor: RV 81 and RV 83. He has also worked as associate producer, writer and consultant on various CBC documentaries: The Killing Ground; The Horror and The Valor; The Great War; and The Battle of Quebec, 1759.
Dr. Jarymowycz is presently an assistant professor with the Joint Command and Staff College Program at CFC, and, writing the official history of The Black Watch (Royal Highland Regiment) of Canada, scheduled for 2012.
The Quebec Thistle Council is the non-profit umbrella organization representing Scottish organizations in the Province of Quebec. Its purpose is to promote and maintain Scottish culture and traditions in the Province. This it does through the organization, sponsorship and coordination of various annual Scottish cultural activities and events.
Light refreshments will be served and cash bar at the conclusion of the Lecture where our guests will be able to meet our guest speaker. Admission is free; however, any donations would be appreciated.
